The Skateboard Race
By Srishta Hazra

Joseph Brown was the best skateboarder in Mrs. Salon’s class. One day his friend's brother challenged Joseph to a skateboard race on the following Sunday. It was already Wednesday. Joseph got a new skateboard to practice with. He had to get better because his friend's brother was in fourth grade and Joseph was only in second grade. His friend's brother's name was Sam.

Sam did not practice because he thought that experts do not need to practice. Joseph went through 3 whole days of practice! On Friday night, Joseph had his dinner and went to bed. The next morning he woke up. It was Saturday. He only had one more day to practice. Joseph went to the store and bought a new helmet, kneepads, shoulder pads, and elbow pads. Then Joseph went home and practiced doing jumps. Sam was at home watching the skateboard channel on TV. Joseph watched it too. Finally, it was night.

Joseph had a good sleep and woke up the next morning. He wore a new t-shirt and went to the track. It was set up already. Then the starter came to the two racers and said" On your marks, get set, GO"! Joseph started out fast. But then Sam overtook him at high speed. VROOOOOMM!!!!! He went so fast that you could not even see the wheels on his skateboard. Joseph tried to get past Sam but he could not do it. His whole class was rooting for him. Then finally Joseph found a ramp and he went on it super fast and he soared through the air and passed Sam. Then Joseph passed the finish line. Then a guy got a microphone and shouted "THE WINNER IS JOSEPH BROWN"!!!! Joseph got a huge skateboard trophy. Sam was glad that he got the chance to play in the competition. Everyone was happy and Mrs. Salon’s class made a sports hall of fame and Joseph was skateboarder of the month.

THE END
